Ermalinda Ortiz, 76, of Walsenburg, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at University Park Care Center where she had been a patient since January.
Ermalinda was born July 27, 1935 to the union of Juan and Mary Casias. She married Manuel Ortiz on June 14, 1952 and together they had six children.
Her greatest joy was cooking and baking for special family gatherings. She also enjoyed traveling, gambling and getting dressed up to go out dancing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Mary Casias, her siblings, John, Dora and Daniel David Casias, her two great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Anthony Michael.
Ermalinda is survived by her children, Julie (George) Martinez, Leonard Ortiz, Sharon (Art) Ortiz, Lorraine (Louis) Montoya, Allen (Esther) Ortiz and Bryan (Cheryl) Ortiz; brother, Orlando (Rosie) Casias; grandchildren, Daniel, Christian, Lito, Robyn, Art, Chantel, Alaina, Bryanna and Mariah. She also had 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are special friends, Cindy, Carrie, Frances, Clara Rose and Eursie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rosary at 6 pm Sunday, April 8, 2012, Funeral Mass at 10:30 am Monday, April 9, 2012.
Burial was at North St. Mary Cemetery.
Boies-Ortega Funeral Home in Walsenburg was in charge of services.
