Delmar Alvis McWillis

6-7-1918 ~ 12-13-2010

Delmar Alvis McWillis was born on June 7, 1918 to James Bruce McWillis and Emma May Jordan in Lincoln, Idaho.

Our beloved father, grand-father, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather passed away peacefully after a short illness on December 13, 2010.

Delmar married Margaret Virgina Pulsipher on January 31, 1941 in Shoshone, Idaho and had 3 sons together. They started their lives out together herding sheep in a sheep herders wagon in Richfield, Idaho. Delmar then worked the silver mines in Idaho, Montana and California. The couple settled in Hailey, Idaho where Delmar owned several filling stations, rental properties and the Sun Bowl Bowling Alley. He also ranched and grew potatoes in Picabo, Idaho on Silver Creek a creek made famous for its fly fishing.

Delmar and Margaret loved big band music and were terrific dancing partners. He also loved to travel, camp and fish at various times with his 3 sons and their children.

In 2004 Delmar moved to Walsenburg, CO to live near his son Ron and daughter-n-law Emily McWillis. He lived on his own for 2 years and then moved into the Walsenburg Care Center in July of 2006. There he made a lot of friends with the staff and kept them in stitches with his colorful stories. His small poodle Bugsy lived with him until he was hospitalized. He was devoted to and loved his little dog tremendously.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret, his parents and his twin sister Doris and his grandson Sean McWillis.

Delmar is survived by his three sons, Delmar Vance (Renee) of St. George, UT, Jerry (Janet) of St. Lake City, UT and Ron (Emily) of Cuchara, CO. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Delmar will be greatly missed for his smile and the twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday December 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Johnson-Romero Funeral Home, 525 Main St., Walsenburg, Colorado.
