Charlotte Benedetti

    Charlotte Benedetti died Friday, March 26, at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Walsenburg.  She was 92.  Charlotte was born in Aguilar, Colorado, on June 17, 1917, to Charles and Rose Niccoli.  She was the seventh child in the family.  Shortly before her birth, tragedy struck the family.  First her sister, Frances, died in a freak accident followed by her father, Charles, who was one of the 121 miners killed on April 27, 1917, in the Hastings coal mine disaster.  Despite hardship, Charlotte grew up as part of a close and happy family.  She graduated from Aguilar High School in 1935 and married John Benedetti on April 22, 1937.  Throughout her long life, Charlotte established a career based on her managerial and accounting skills.  She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Colorado Department of Corrections.  Charlotte served on the board of the LAHC Rehab Center and twice served on the Walsenburg City Council.  She served as bookkeeper and was on the finance committee of St. Mary Church.  She enjoyed reading, bridge, and traveled extensively. 

    Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her husband, John.  She is survived by her children Paul (Pam) Benedetti, Jackey (Bill) Ugolini, and John (Sherry) Benedetti, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

     Services will be held March 30 at St. Mary Church, 121 E. 7th Street, Walsenburg.  Rosary at 10 am, followed by funeral mass at 10:30.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Senior Outreach Program/Sister Carol Tlach, c/o St. Mary Church, P.O. Box 86, Walsenburg, CO 81089.
