Obituary Alfonso (Bob) Chavez

Alfonso (Bob) Chavez, 92, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 8, 2015. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Lillian; his daughter, Constance (Connie); his granddaughter, Renee; and his niece, Bernice. He is survived by his daughters, Roberta Trujillo, Rita Chavez, and Veronica (Linda) Thompson; by grandsons Edward, Robert, and Bernard; by granddaughters Gina, Michelle, Lillian, Lorraine, and Debra; by 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great, great-grandchildren; by nephews Victor, Harold, and Carl and nieces Margie, Linda, and Betty; as well as by too many friends to count. Bob graduated from St. Mary High School and was a World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Corps. He helped start the GI Forum and Eagles organizations in Walsenburg. Bob had a very colorful and fulfilled life. He never lost his sense of humor and he made many friends in his lifetime. He owned and ran the once-well-known Chankla Bar on Cemetery Hill. In his later years, Bob spent all his time traveling, playing golf and rummy, and going to casinos. He also loved to go hunting and fishing. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 18 at 2 pm at Boies-Ortega Funeral Home in Walsenburg with a reception to follow at the Eagles Hall.
