Obit: Patricia Sandoval

Patricia Sandoval passed away Oct. 18, 2010.  She is survived by her husband Xavier, sons, Don, Steve (Maggie), Tim (Heidi), daughter, Susan (Adrian) Chavez, grandchildren, Jaime (Kurt) Schlomberg, John (Bridget) Sandoval, Kendall and McKenna Sandoval, Xavier and Antonio Chavez, great grandchildren, Alec, Violet and Ava Schlomberg, sisters, Juanita (Tony) Lucero, Ruby Casados, Lena Martinez and RoseAnn (Dave) Vigil, brothers, Fred (Theresa) Martinez and David (Josie) Martinez.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe & Celestina Martinez and her brother, Alex.  Pat was born in the Turner Mining Camp on January 8, 1931.  She was the 4th daughter of Joe & Celestina Martinez.  The family moved to Mutual Minining Camp, where she attended school until moving to Walsenburg, where she graduated from Huerfano County High School in 1949.  It was there she met and fell in love with Xavier.  They were married 60 years ago on September 18, 1950.  She followed Xavier, who was in the Navy, to Memphis, Tenn.  They moved to Walsenburg after he was discharged.  She worked at various places in Walsenburg before becoming the director of Planned Parenthood of Walsenburg for more than 20 years.  In her retirement, she kept busy with her River Roundup and Mining Museum Activities, which she really enjoyed.  Her other favorite activities were visiting her children, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 23, 2010, at St. Mary Church in Walsenburg.  In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be sent to St. Mary′s Catholic Church Maintenance Fund, 121 E. 7th. St., Walsenburg, CO 81089.
