Navajo HOA meeting

by Brian Manning
NAVAJO — The Navajo Ranch HOA held a meet and greet candidate forum with the five candidates for Huerfano County Commissioner. This followed their quarterly business meeting on Tuesday at the Navajo western water district building. It was standing room only.
The candidates Ray Garcia, Max Vezzani, Lonnie Brown, Joe Albano and Nick Vigil each gave a statement on their qualifications and their vision for the county. Each talked about the importance of water, the need for jobs and commercial development.
Questions from the audience addressed the drug problem and candidates said that more community involvement was needed and a good example was needed at home to instill responsibility and work ethic in their children.
One question addressed the lack of handicapped access to the county building and they agreed that the county must conform to federal ADA regulations and that funding would be necessary.
Another issue was the lack of prosecution of criminals and that there needs to be better cooperation between agencies. Some felt that crime was out of control in the county and many criminals were going unpunished.
It was a very friendly forum and the candidates agreed on many issues and said that change was needed.
