Nathan Lewis dies

LA VETA- Nathan Lewis (34) passed away December 25 at 1:30 am after a long battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife Andi and five children Marissa (18), Ty (14), Sammy (11), Nelson (11) and Nick (7).

Nate grew up in Nebraska, spending a lot of time on his grandfather’s farm where he got his love for agriculture.  A master welder by trade, he and Andi moved to Huerfano County in March 2006.  He then became a realtor with Southern Colorado Land & Livestock, and joined in the family cattle business. He was out on the ranch working cattle as late as October.  He enjoyed horseback riding and Highland cattle, and was a devoted family man.  He was also an avid music fan, not just of country & western but also of Pink Floyd.  He was learning to play the guitar  occasionally playing along with his wife’s father, John Stroh.  After marrying Andi, Nate grew in his faith and became a Catholic.  At the end he was not afraid of dying knowing that he would be with his Lord.

He was deeply touched during his long illness by the tremendous community outpouring of love and help for him and his family, from  the hospital, La Veta Boosters, Farm Bureau and 4-H clubs, and the churches who placed him on their prayer chains.  It warmed his heart, and he often wondered how he could possibly thank everyone.

Funeral services will begin at Christ the King Church in La Veta at 10:30 on Friday with reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations should go to hospice or the Travelers Trust for the continuing education of the children.
