Menegatti claims title

by Dreama Ortivez

LA VETA- La Veta youth wrestler Dawson Menegatti, is now one step closer to becoming a Triple Crown winner.  Last Saturday Dawson rolled up the competition.  Dawson wrestled four straight matches on his way to earning the Monster Match Nationals 10 and under, 62 lb title.

In his first match, Dawson defeated Conor Mendez from Rollins Wrestling Club out of Washington, 17 to 9.  Menegatti′s next victim was last year′s Triple Crown winner Jack Vancamp from Pierre Governors out of South Dakota with a major decision, 15-2.  Next up for Dawson in the semi-finals was Keegan Stancato from UP Vikings Wrestling Club out of Washington; Dawson defeated Stancato by major decision, 15-4.  In the finals, Dawson defeated a returning 2X National Champion, Nicholas Gallegos, from Phil Nawoick Wrestling Club, 12-5.

With this win Dawson completed the first step on his Triple Crown pursuit.  Dawson′s parents, Dave and Brandy Menegatti, are very proud of their son for competing so well.  They are particularly proud of how Dawson responded to the instructions from his coach and former La Veta high school wrestler Ron Ortivez III.   Dawson will compete in the Who′s Bad National Classic on January 1, 2011 for the next step of his Triple Crown Quest.

Congratulations and good luck on your quest, Dawson!
