CUCHARA- Tad Johnson, 47, of Colorado Springs, was found dead by a search and rescue team Tuesday night along a hiking trail near Baker Creek, about a mile from the Cuchara Ski Resort.
Johnson had come to Cuchara the previous week, to stay at a friend’s condominium. When Johnson’s friend arrived at the condo on Tuesday, Johnson was not there, but all his belongings were.
The Sheriff Department was notifed, and a search was organized. Johnson’s body was found in a rugged section of terrain, and he was covered in snow, leading searchers to believe he died before last week’s snowstorm.
The coroner has yet to determine the cause of death, but foul play is not suspected. The family has been notifed.
