HUERFANO-Three kids from Texas, ages 14 – 19, went hiking about 12 noon on Aug 22 and got lost. They started out at Bear Creek and got into the Indian Creek and Spring Creek areas about 6 1/2 miles from Bear Lake, somehow losing their way. Fortunately, they had a cell phone with them and, at some point, were able to make contact with parents. The Huerfano County Search and Rescue were able to find them around 10:30 pm that same night.
Although the scenery is beautiful, there are several intersecting trails which, if not careful, easily allows someone to get lost.
