Nancy Cruz retires
To the Good People of Huerfano County:
I am announcing my retirement and will not seek re-election in 2022.  It has been my greatest honor to serve as Huerfano County Clerk & Recorder for the past eight years.
Many innovations, upgraded systems and services have been implemented over the past eight years.  I feel confident that the office will continue its high standard of services.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my outstanding and loyal staff, co-workers and everyone in the county that I have had the pleasure to work with for the past 24 years.
Thank you Huerfano County and God Bless you!
Sincerely,
~Nancy C. Cruz

Resignation (not retirement) from the City of Walsenburg
My tenure with the City of Walsenburg, as Account Clerk II/Utility Clerk, began on November 10, 2011, and it ended unfortunately on November 10, 2021 with my resignation, oddly enough on my ten year anniversary.  I have experienced many hardships while proudly working for the City.  Too many to list them all, but just to name a few; numerous City Administrators and Finance Directors, changes in the City Council, major main line gas break, the East Peak fire and pre-evacuation of the city, Spring Fire potential flooding prep, and the loss of our Police Department, all of which many citizen responses were addressed by the front office to help put the public at ease during those difficult times.
I emailed my letter of resignation to City Admin and also the Mayor on November 16 for the following reasons, without going into detail:
Wage disparity, Lack of Concern for Utility Billing/Accounts Receivable, Preferential Treatment of Front Office Employees
The City Administrator has been informing everyone that I have “Retired”.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Questionable management decisions, lack of trust, and lack of priorites should be of major concern for the new Mayor and Council.
For ten years I have enjoyed helping the City and Citizens of Walsenburg. I will always cherish that.  It’s a shame that it has come to this.

Illegal dumping
Dear Editor
Illegal dumping is accelerating on the County Roads. THIS HAS TO STOP!  Our clean up committee will not pick up litter on another county road until some civic action is taken that would be expected to solve this egregious  problem.   One proposal is to mandate a pre-emptive trash collection for all households, on the premise that it is easier to collect the trash at the curb then to retrieve the trash from the arroyos.  This approach has been successful in Bent County partnering with Las Animas city,  and home rule city La Junta.  Other proposals that promise at least a 95% chance of solving the illegal dumping problem are welcome.
And we don’t need a two-county trash district.  We need a one-city solution that can be expanded to the rest of the County.
END THE VISUAL STENCH!
