La Veta splits weekend action
MOSCA, ANTONITO- The Lady Redskins’ 14-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds. La Veta lost in decisive fashion, 52-31, scoring only 8 points in the second half. According to Smith, “We could not hit a shot in the second.” He added, “Don’t get me wrong, Sangre played tough.”
The following night, La Veta demolished Antonito 81-30 to end their regular season play and formally clinch the district and a first round pig tail bye. Shelby Morgan exploded for 28 points while teammate, Sami Willhoite hit 22.
La Veta finished the season with a 17-2 record and 11-1 in the district. The Lady Skins will play their first district playoff game tomorrow night at Alamosa High School.
