Lady Redskins 19-0

LA VETA- The Lady Redskins have finished their regular season with a perfect 19-0 record and claimed the title, League Champs.  The ladies traveled to Cripple Creek on Friday not to gamble or play the slots but to win big on the volleyball court. 

    The ladies defeated the lady Pioneers in four games: 25-13, 25-12, 23-25 and 25-19.  According to Coach Lessar, “Cripple Creek was a tough travel day and I was pleased to come away with the win.”  Christina Koutnik had a great game with 11 kills and 6 service aces.  Betsy Trenckmann and Sami Willhoite had 10 kills each.  Brianna Crump had 3 kills, Amanda White had 2 and Cara Campbell had 1 kill.  Trenckmann had 4 service aces while Sam McCay and Willhoite had 3 service aces.

    On Saturday the lady Redskins hit the court once again when they challenged the lady Bobcats from Custer County.  The Redskins were victorious, defeating the Bobcats in four games: 25-12, 26-24, 23-25 and 25-12.  “I am exceptionally proud of this year′s team and am looking forward to district tournament.  The teamwork and character of this team are tremendous and it has been a privilege to work with these girls this season and in previous years” stated Coach Lessar.

    The first round of play-offs was played Monday night between Crested Butte and Antonito in Antonito.  The lady Redskins hosted the winner of this match, Crested Butte, on Tuesday, October 26th at 6 pm.  The Redskins had home court advantage for this game.  La Veta beat Crested Butte 25-11, 25-15, and 25-20. 

    The finals of the district tournament play will be at Custer County High School beginning at 9 am. this Friday.  It looks as though the lady Redskins will be the number 1 seed and will play matches 2, 4, and 6, which will approximately begin at 10 am.  Coach Lessar commented, “We will play point-for-point and match-for-match and are working hard to get as far as we can in the season!”
