Lady panthers drop conference matchup to Crowley County

by Mark Craddock
WALSENBURG — The John Mall Lady Panthers were defeated last Thursday by the visiting Crowley County squad in straight sets. The Lady Chargers from Ordway bested the Walsenburg team 25-13, 25-17, 25 14.
Courtney Dotter, who leads the Lady Panthers in kills, blocks and digs, was named player of the game.
The John Mall squad continues to struggle through what is basically a post-pandemic rebuilding year, in a league chock-a-block with powerful opponents, but Head Coach Josh Vialpando still sees signs of progress in his scrappy team.

Crowley County stands at sixth in the 2A/1A Santa Fe League with a 5-5 overall record and 4-3 record in conference play.

John Mall’s record is 1-10 overall. They are in 10th place in the conference with an 0-8 record.
The Lady Panthers will be on the road tonight to face the Swink Lions in what might be among John Mall’s best chances for a conference win. The Lady Lions are more evenly matched, at leasst on paper, with the John Mall squad. Swink is currently in 8th place in the 2/A1A Santa Fe League with a 2-5 league record (2-6 overall).
