La Veta youth dies from injuries

by Brian Orr

LA VETA-  Zachary Shane Bruce, known as “Doc” to his friends, the young man who was critically injured in a rollover accident last week on County Road 421 west of La Veta, passed away Monday evening, when his mother took him off life support.  He  is survived by his mother, Tonya Ashworth, stepfather, Merle Wells, and three brothers-  Allan Gorman, Calveigh and Camlin Ashworth.

Bruce is being transported back to Georgia for funeral services, and a memorial service will be held in his honor in La Veta at a later date.

John Holcomb, 22, a friend who called Zak “his brother,” and the driver of the vehicle that crashed, has been released from the hospital.

Publisher’s note:  In last week’s article, I left out the critical word NOT. The sentance should have read, “drugs and alcohol are NOT suspected to have played a part (in the accident).”  I apologize for any pain I may have caused to the families involved.
