La Veta Wrestling explodes at Rocky Mountain Nationals

by David Tesitor

DENVER- The La Veta Wrestling club took several members to participate at the Rocky Mountain Nationals tournament held last weekend.  Wrestlers from all across the country competed in this premier tournament of the season.  Rocky Mountain Nationals brings together athletes of all sizes and ages to compete in this tournament sanctioned by USA Wrestling.

La Veta Redskin Adam Ortivez competed in the 15-18 age bracket at 125 pounds and finished sixth from a field of 32.  Desirae Ortivez took second place in the 54-60 pound, eight and under class. Brock Howard took fifth place over teammate Christopher Ortivez in the 7-0 age, rookie class.  Kira Hampton took third in the six and under, under 45 pounds, and Teah Ortivez took fourth place.

If you have an opportunity to watch a pee-wee tournament, it is important to cheer on these young gladiators as they will be the champions of the future.  Several of the high-school wrestlers who have gone to state have made their way through the ranks, beginning at the pee-wee level.
