LA VETA — La Veta Trails is pleased to announce it has received a grant from the National Wilderness Stewardship Alliance. The funds will support the purchase of high quality trail maintenance tools for the Spanish Peaks Wilderness Stewards. La Veta Trails and the San Carlos Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service will form the Spanish Peak Wilderness Stewards to clear and maintain four of the most heavily used trails in the Spanish Peaks. Jeffer Wingate of the La Veta U.S. Forest Service Office will schedule four trail workdays in 2018 so SPWS can work on a back log of trail maintenance issues. Anyone interested in volunteering as a Spanish Peaks Wilderness Steward, should contact La Veta Trails at (719) 890-4071.
