La Veta receives $1M grant to construct a new wastewater facility

staff report

LA VETA — The Town of La Veta has been offered a grant award in the amount of $1,000,000 for the construction of a new 70,000 gallons per day sequencing batch plant to treat wastewater.

Irv Halter of the Department of Local Affairs released the information about the grant March 27.

The grant was for state Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance funds, meaning funds derived from oil, gas, CO2, coal, and metals extracted in Colorado. Halter said competition for the limited funds was intense, and that DOLA received many more requests than they had funds available.

“Having a treat wastewater system is key to a healthy community, I’m glad to see the Town of La Veta has received the grant award to construct a new 70,000 gallons per day batch treat wastewater plant,” says State Representative Donald Valdez.”
