LA VETA- The Scrappy Ladies Quilt Guild, who meet monthly in Walsenburg, are presenting their Fourth Annual Quilt Show and Sale, the weekend of July 4 and 5, in La Veta. The show is being held at the La Veta Community Center on East Ryus Avenue, Saturday and Sunday between 10 am and 3 pm. The community center is just one block north of the site of this year’s Annual Art in the Park festival.
Visitors can make a day of it visiting the park, where there will be food and craft vendors, and visiting the quilt show, where there will be scores of quilts to view and many quilts for sale at great prices. The quilt show has a boutique, where you will find many quilt-related items, as well as other hand made gifts. There will be a free give-away at the door, so bring a friend and enjoy the show.
In addition, the Guild will be selling raffle tickets for their 2009 Opportunity Quilt (at right). The drawing will be held Sunday afternoon. All proceeds from the raffle are used to further quilting initiatives in Huerfano County. Last year, several children’s quilting books were donated to the Spanish Peaks Library.
The Guild is very active in providing quilts for charitable organizations in the Walsenburg area. Among them are the Walsenburg Dialysis Center, Bright Beginnings, Advocates Against Domestic Assault, Pueblo Catholic Charities, and Ami Sims Alzheimer Program.
The Guild meets at the Walsenburg Community Center the second Monday of each month, and draws membership from La Veta, Walsenburg, Colorado City, and points north. Anyone interested in joining the group, or just seeking information, are invited to contact either Barb Marovitz at 676-3201 or Tommie Lard at 738-2172.
Come join us for a weekend of fun in La Veta!
