La Veta medical clinic opens doors for care

LA VETA MEDICAL CLINIC DOORS ARE OPEN FOR CARE

The La Veta Clinic will again be open for patients as usual, beginning Monday, December 8th.  Through the generosity of Dr. and Jeni Cluff’s patients and friends from near and far, the foreclosure threats to the Cluff’s clinic and home have been removed and his medical malpractice insurance re-instated.

The Defend Our Clinic (DOC) Committee, headed by Pat McMahon, has, through a combination of gifts and loans, been able to provide financial coverage for the Cluffs while they await payments from Medicare.  These payments are up to 18 months in arrears due to problems within Medicare.  This means up to 75% of the funds needed to run the La Veta Clinic are more than a year overdue.  According to McMahon, other community members are lending their weight to influence members of Congress, at both the federal and state level, to address this breakdown in Medicare which, according to Rep. John Salazar, is affecting doctors and clinics throughout rural Colorado.
