La Veta Fire Protection District fundraisers net nearly $20K

by Debi Sporleder
LA VETA — Saturday, July 13 was a huge community outreach and fundraising day for La Veta Fire Protection District. It started with a Cuchara Open House at 10 am with fun activities, informative demonstrations and presentations, and a free BBQ.
A Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center team conducted free blood pressure, glucose levels and other health checks. It was also a great time to meet the LVFPD, EMS and Auxiliary team members. The Cuchara events raised around $10,765 for the LVFPD.
The day was capped off with a fundraising party sponsored by the Bachman & Associates office at La Veta Inn. Planet O donated their time and talents for an incredible evening of dance and entertainment. This eclectic party was enjoyed by young and old, rich and poor and everyone in between.
The soon-to-be auxiliary, through the efforts of Paula Berg, put together an amazing group of items for a silent auction. “Our merchants and individuals are so generous in enabling this to happen,” says Berg. The evening’s fundraising brought in $8,000 for a total of $18,765 for the day.
As of presstime, over a thousand additional dollars have been received at Bachman’s and more is still coming in.
