Jimmy Leroy Chavez, 82, passed away February 28, 2018. He was born August 27, 1935 to Marcellino and Piedad Chavez. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern Chavez; daughter Ruthann Chavez; sister Bernice Hurtado; sons-in-law, Gerald Sandoval and David Valdez Sr. ; and grandson David Valdez, Jr.
He is survived by children, Louise “Chuky” Sandoval, Kathy Valdez, Jim (Veronica) Chavez, all of Walsenburg, Cindy Vigil (Roger Gifford) of Pueblo, CO, Adrian (Susan) Chavez of Westminster, CO; brother Elmer Chavez; 26 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Robert Martinez, John “Stoney” (Nancy) Martinez; sister-in-law Della Martinez; numerous nieces and nephews.
Leroy was a self-employed contractor, and worked as the superintendent of Walsenburg’s community center until retirement.
Funeral service is Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church.
