TRINIDAD — The body of a 53-year-old male being held at the Las Animas County jail was discovered by detention personnel at approximately 8:08 am on March 25. The man was found to be unconscious and unresponsive.
Both the detention staff and EMS personnel responded and attempted to resuscitate the man, but were unsuccessful. The Las Animas County Coroner was called in. Upon examination of the man, the coroner pronounced him deceased at about 8:15 a.m.
The Las Animas County jail Sheriff’s Office, along with the Trinidad Police Department are investigating the death of the inmate, whose identity is being withheld at this time and the cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy.
