HUERFANO- We all know it’s windy here in Huerfano County, but Karl and Debi Sporleder reported that Huerfano County experienced some record setting winds this week. On Monday Dec. 22, gusts of 79.6 miles per hour were recorded near the Huerfano River. Over the three year period the Sporleders have on record, winds have exceeded 70 miles per hour as follows:

April 19, 2007 70.9 mph
Oct. 17, 2006 72.9 mph
The Saffir-Simpson Scale indicates that winds from 75 to 85 miles per hour are considered category 1, hurricane strength.
