by Guy Blasi

WALSENBURG—As the Huerfano Journal goes to print, 44 two-man teams have signed up for the annual Huerfano Open golf tournament this Satruday and Sunday.  Played at both the Walsenburg Golf Club and Grandote Peaks courses, teams will alternate courses a total of 36 holes over the two days of play.

Teams from Walsenburg, LaVeta, Pueblo, Northern New Mexico and the San Luis Valley are among those who are signed up.  Spaces had been filling up quickly and the tournament committee is expecting the maximum of 64 teams to have signed up for the popular tournament.

Friday, both courses will be open for practice rounds.  Golf carts will be mandatory at Grandote Peaks and optional at Walsenburg Golf Club.  The popular scramble format will be adjusted by handicaps verified by either a Colorado or New Mexico Golf Associations and GHIN verifications.

Results and photos will appear in next weeks edition of the Huerfano Journal.
