Huerfano County Record Voter Turnout Goes Blue for Obama

HUERFANO–  Huerfano County citizens came out in record numbers this year, with an estimated 78% of registered voters turning out to vote.   According to County Clerk Judy Benine, 2,234 absentee ballots were sent out, with 2,036 of those voted and returned. 700 citizens voted early, and an extra thousand or so hit the polls on election day.  There are a total of 4,822 registered voters in Huerfano County.

The good turn out mirrors the national scene, due to the intense interest in this year′s presidential election.  Huerfano County gave Barack Obama 1,946 votes and John McCain received 1,547.
