Huerfano County 4-H Royalty

LA VETA- The Huerfano County 4-H royalty contest was held on Saturday, May 9th, at the Huerfano County Fairgrounds in La Veta. The competition is sponsored by the Huerfano County Fair Board.  Superintendents for the program are Terri Smart, Sandi Willcox and Christy Smith.

Three young ladies vied for the title of Huerfano County Fair Queen.  The girls were required to complete a written test, give a speech and answer an impromptu question in front of everyone in attendance. They were then excused to the arena where each girl rode one of the 4-H reining patterns on their horse.  The girls were judged in each area. The 2008 Sr. Queen, Brianna Crump, was in attendance to giver her outgoing speech, set the reining patterns and helped crown the new royalty. The contest was judged by Alana Smart of Amarillo, TX.

The winners are as follows: Samantha Smith – 2009 Sr. Huerfano County 4-H Queen; Ashton Parker – 2009 Jr. Huerfano County 4-H Queen; Megan Valdez – 2009 Attendant Jr. Huerfano County Queen.    The girls will represent the Fair Board at various events, including the upcoming 4th of July events.  They will be in the parade and grand entry at the rodeos.  They will be also very active at the Huerfano County 4-H Fair in August, both helping as needed and with their own projects.  Look for their smiling faces.
