WASHINGTON, DC — Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet announced this week that Huajatolla Valley Estates will receive a $419,000 loan and a $269,000 grant from U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program.
Funds will be used to purchase water rights and make improvements to the water system near La Veta, Colorado.
“Colorado, like much of the West, is all too familiar with the need to preserve our water resources,” Bennet said. “These resources will ensure that residents in the community will be able to preserve the water system and maintain access to clean drinking water.”
The USDA’s Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program provides zero-interest loans to local utilities which, in turn, provide funds to local businesses (ultimate recipients) for projects that will create and retain employment in rural areas.
