WALSENBURG- The Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center’s 2007 Caring for the Community Health Fair will be held on April 19, 9 am to Noon at the Community Center in Walsenburg (928 Russell Ave.). Co-sponsor for this year’s event is Spanish Peaks Healthcare Foundation. “If you do just one thing for your health or the health of a family member or friend, come to the Health Fair,” says Sandy Dolak, SPRHC Outreach and one of the organizers of the event.
It is focused on the entire family and will apply to everyone in our communities. There are over forty booths offering a wealth of information and handouts. There are many free health screens including blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, BMI (Body Mass Index), pulmonary function…and more! Bone density screening will be available again for only $10.00. There will be many special activities just for kids who will get health related rewards. This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to interface with numerous organizations and health providers. Community businesses have donated more than 20 great prizes to be awarded for those coming to the event.
A special feature this year will be the Health-e-Solutions kiosks provided by Southeastern Colorado Area Health Education Center (SECAHEC). These self contained units are a highly personalized way for individuals to do a private health assessment and then see how lifestyle changes can improve their health. These are fun and easy to use and provide valuable information for participants and then have a print out as a reminder or as important information to share with their health care provider. Best of all…..this is free!
The more than 500 persons who had their blood tests may pick up their results and, if desired, have them interpreted by a health professional. Those who had blood tests, but cannot pick up the results at the Fair, may retrieve them at the Outreach Office, 129 Kansas Ave., Walsenburg April 28-May 1st, 9am to 5 pm.
Last year hundreds of persons participated in health fair activities. Everyone is encouraged to come out and bring all their family and friends. Celebrate spring; celebrate your good health!
