Grizzlies come up with victories

by Guy Blasi

WALSENBURG- The Walsenburg Junior High Grizzlies are off to a fast 2-0 start this season.  Week one showed the Grizzlies have a potent offense and powerful defense with a 38-0 win over La Junta Middle School.  The game was delayed twice due to two separate lightning and tornado warnings. Head Coach Tobias DeHerrerasaid, “It was a good opening game.  The team worked together and we came out with a good victory.”

Last week, the Grizzlies met a more formidable foe in the Custer County Middle School Bobcats. The Grizzlies fought for a hard-won 20-0.  “We got the ball first and we drove down into the red zone.  We finished the drive with a pass from Clayton Berger to our tight end Jordan Bobian,” DeHerrera said. The Grizzlies were up at halftime 6-0. There was no scoring in the third quarter. “In the middle of the fourth quarter we put a drive together and we ended the drive with W.D. Arnold getting into the end zone.  Then Kylan Estrada ran hard into the end zone and scored the 2-point conversion.”

In the middle of the fourth quarter, Jordan Bobian scored a touchdown when he intercepted a Bobcat pass and took it in for a touchdown.  On the Bobcat’s last possession, Javier Romero intercepted the ball to help seal the Grizzlies’ win.  Coach DeHerrera said.  “Defensively we had a good showing. We fought hard all game long and we came up with the victory.”
