Gardner trash co-op changing

GARDNER- El Depot, the waste transfer station in Gardner, is looking to change hands, with Owen and Bertie Cookingham picking up the torch.

The current trash rolloffs there having been filled up and not picked up, as US Waste has not been paid recently.  The Cookinghams however, say the matter is being taken care of, and new rolloffs are due to be delivered.

The new management and the depot should still remain in place, even when the County’s new waste transfer station comes online in March.

There is however, a question of where has the money the county has been paying to the co-op gone. Currently, the county chips in $600 a month towards the trash bill, with the next check slated to go out Nov. 20.  “Let’s have members of the co-op come in and talk to us before then,” suggested Commissioner Scott King.
