Gardner Post Office to stay in current building

GARDNER- The word from On High is that the building where the Gardner Post Office is located is repairable.

A more detailed examination shows that the structure is not as bad as initially believed, and the decision has been made to repair it, and not bring a modular replacement.

The final paperwork authorizing the funding for the work is nearly done, and construction should begin the end of this week or next.

The Post Office Box section of the building will be the first part repaired, and that should be open for business within two weeks after construction begins.

The United States Postal Service does not own the building that it operates out of in Gardner, so a deal had to be struck with the owner, who will allow the construction to take place, and to have that cost applied to their lease.

The entire construction process should last four to six weeks, according to Post Office spokesman Al DeSarro.

“We greatly appreciate the tremendous support we’ve recieved from the Gardner community, and we look forward to serving them again with a much improved facility.”
