Gardner Fire Medical Jurisdiction

by Carol Stevens

GARDNER- Sherry Mann, Director of Huerfano Ambulance Service, and Dr. Goshia have agreed that Upper Huerfano Fire Protection District will no longer respond to medical calls with the use of First Responder 601.  Gardner Fire EMT’s will still respond to calls, but will use their own vehicles.  GM 601 will be used  for fire fighting purposes.

Board Treasurer Larry Michaels stated that the 2006 and 2007 audits have been completed and filed with the state.

Chief Brian Sharp reported that the firehouse has been inventoried by seven staff with four volunteers.  Six of the department vehicles have been completely inventoried, and all but one of eight department vehicles are completely in service.  The department responded in July to a trash burn, mutual aid call for the Rock Springs grass fire, and two medical calls.  According to Chief Sharp, the fire members have completed a fire fighting action plan, and  the board has approved the plan.  The board gave Chief Sharp permission to re-issue all call signs to fire members. Chief Sharp thanked Gardner residents for funds raised at Hippie Days and Chuckwagon Dinner.

At the next meeting, revised by-laws will be discussed and voted upon.  Fire members Brian Sharp, Roy Britt, Buzz Deardorff, and Diana Cupps will create member standard operating procedures that will work within the board SOPs.
