Four file for Raton City Commission

RATON — Raton City Clerk Tricia Garcia announced this evening four Raton residents have filed for the three seats up for election on the Raton city commission. Those filing for the three posts are: District 2, Donald Lee Giacomo; District 4, Lindé Schuster and James Kenneth Cruz; and District 5, James Neil Segotta Jr. Garcia now has until Thursday, January 7 to verify the candidates and at 5:01 pm on Thursday they will draw for positions on the March 1, 2016 municipal election ballot. Persons wanting to register to vote at the regular municipal election must register with the Colfax County Clerk not later than Tuesday, February 2, at 5 pm. Polling locations for the municipal election are: Voters in consolidated precincts 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 shall vote at the Raton Convention Center, 901 S. 3rd Street, Raton, NM. Voters in consolidated precincts 10, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 shall vote at St. Patrick’s – St. Joseph’s New Parish Hall, 104 Buena Vista, Raton, NM. Those wishing to vote absentee can pick up an application for an absentee ballot from the municipal clerk. All applications for an absentee ballot must be completed and accepted

by the municipal clerk prior to 5 pm, February 26. After that time, all unused absentee ballots will be publicly destroyed by the municipal clerk. The municipal clerk will accept completed absentee ballots delivered by mail or in person by the voter casting the absentee ballot, by a member of the voter’s immediate family, or by the caregiver of the voter until 7 pm of March 1, 2016. Absentee ballots may be marked in person in the office of the municipal clerk during the regular hours and days of business, beginning on Tuesday, January 26, and closing at 5 pm on Friday, February 26. Early voting on paper ballots will be conducted in the office of the municipal clerk during the regular hours and days of business, beginning on Wednesday, February 10, and closing at 5 pm on Friday, February 26.
