Fire wise fair in Cuchara

by Carol Dunn

CUCHARA- The La Veta Fire Protection District held a Fire Wise Emergency Fair at the Cuchara fire substation on Saturday, June 27.  Fire District personnel presented a fire safety course and an emergency medical course.  Several presentations were made on fire extinguishing products.  Firefighter Ricky Johnson told the Journal, “This is great for the community and very effective.”  There were also tables where attendees could have their blood pressure, oxygen saturation and glucose levels checked at no charge.  Lunch was provided by the La Veta Rotary Club.  One attendee, Huerfano County Commissioner Art Bobian, said he was “impressed with the kinds of technology now used for fire prevention.”  Although we’ve had good moisture so far this year, Bobian said he “remembers the dry years.”
