Fire District ready for new repeater

by Carol Dunn

LA VETA- At its August 14 meeting, the La Veta Fire Protection District accepted a bid to design, develop and install two new repeaters at their Mesa radio site.  According to the District’s request for proposal, the primary objective for the installation is to be able to receive clear and understandable emergency pages throughout the entire District.  The secondary goal is to upgrade the existing repeater system, adding battery backup capabilities for the site.  The existing Mesa site was designed and installed in 1980.

The successful bid per specifications was from Communication Solutions, of Trinidad, in the amount of $7,200.  The RFP specifies that the project must be completed by September 30, 2008.  Sue Pezze, District secretary, says the District has worked with Communication Solutions before and is familiar with the quality of their work.

Emergency Medical Services reported at the meeting that they are transporting as many patients as possible themselves, rather than requesting transport by Huerfano County EMS (Walsenburg Ambulance).  A lack of volunteers has been a problem in the past, but not for the past two months.
