Federal laws regarding firearms

by Debi Sporleder
As my first article stated, we are a country and county rooted in guns. Many people are wondering how the president’s executive orders are going to affect them personally.
Right now, it is affecting availability. Have you tried to purchase guns or ammo lately? It is virtually impossible.
If you can find what you are looking for, the purchasing process is now taking a very long time, because of a 36% increase from 2011 in background checks on those purchasing firearms or filing for concealed carry permits. The CBI has recently been denied funding for hiring more people to speed up the process.
Do you know the saying, “There is nothing new under the sun?” Our Founding Fathers knew what government tyranny and criminality was and they spent arduous hours writing a constitution to protect future generations from having to go through the experiences they suffered. They established a system of checks and balances to keep all government, particularly at the federal level, from becoming too powerful and abusive.
The Bill of Rights was then written to enhance the previously placed limitations on government to make sure government would stay in its proper place.
Then, there was something called The Dick Act of 1902. This Act, known also as the Efficiency of Militia Bill H.R.11654, of June 28, 1902, makes the 2nd Amendment virtually untouchable and invalidates any and all gun-control laws (Google it – you won’t run out of reading material).
What happens, then, when government doesn’t obey its own rules – its own constitution? Is punishment doled out to politicians who draw up, vote for and pass unconstitutional laws? If these politicians appoint bureaucrats who are unlawful and their agents violate our rights as Americans, is there any way to fight back? Unfortunately, the answer is NO.
That brings us to an even greater question: Who is going to stop a criminal and out-of-control government from robbing, destroying, killing and abusing its own people? (One point needs to be made right now. I am not saying our current government is going to be doing these things. I am saying our Founding Fathers and those who followed them setting these laws in concrete didn’t do it to keep the people in line – it was specifically for protection against a tyrannical government).
Barring unforeseen powers, there is an answer to that question, which will be addressed in the next article.
