WALSENBURG- Johnny Vigil, 54, of Walsenburg, was struck and killed by a car Wednesday evening, Dec. 17, while standing in the middle of US 160, about seven miles west of town.
Vigil was struck by La Veta resident Rosanne Sapirie, who was traveling westbound at the time of the incident. The accident occured close to midnight. According to the Highway Patrol, Vigil was thrown approximately 100 feet to the ditch on the right side of the road. Vigil was declared dead at the scene. Sapirie sustained no injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
