Within 30 minutes, six area wrestlers completed their first round of action. At 119, defending state champion Alex Pena pinned La Veta′s Michael Channel at 1:03. On the other side of the bracket, John Paul Vigil won on a 5-0 decision and held off Hoops of Del Norte. Vigil will face Pena tomorrow.
At 125, WD Arnold of La Veta took one step closer to the road to state by defeating Garrett Camper of Del Norte. James Sierra road detoured after he lost an 8-4 decision. Sierra needs to win his next three bouts to advance to Denver.
At 130, La Veta′s Adam Ortivez defeated Claudo Sanchez by pin fall at the 1:40 mark. Ortives dominated his opponent throughout.
At 135, John Mall′s John Burch advanced after he defeated Donovan Gray of Antonito 13-3.
