PUEBLO — The Hoehne Farmers finished in ninth place out of a field of 23 teams this past Saturday at the Pueblo Centenial meet, out pacing several 3A and 4A teams as they improved their individual 2A standings for their journey to state.
Jacob Yates of Hoehne and Daniel Fuhr of Pine Creek (3A) battled to a tight finish in the 300 hurdles, with both laying claim to top-10 marks in the event for the time being. Both athletes finished in a dead heat with Yates awarded the first place finish as he out distanced Fuhr, winning the event in a time of 40.81 seconds, just .01 of a second aheaf of his opponent. Yates is all alone atop the 2A 300H rankings. Trystan Moltrer placed eighth with a time of 42.61 and Nicholas Navarette finished ninth in the event with a time of 42.71 seconds. Yates, Moltrer and Navarette are currently 1-2-3 in the state.
In the 100M hurdles, Andrew Doctor of Liberty beat Yates in the finals, running the distance in 14.82 seconds to Yates’ 15.59. Moltrer placed ninth in 16.36 seconds. In the 2A rankings, Yates and Moltrer are one and two in the state.
Kyle Rowe finished 11th in the 100M in a time of 11.66 seconds, 0.74 seconds behind the leader, but his time was good enough to place second in the state in 2A. The season is young and his time, like the others listed, likely will not last as the season progresses. Yates finished 11th and is number four in the state.
In the 200M dash, Luc Andrada of Pueblo East took first with a time of 22.36 seconds. Kyle Rowe placed fifth (23.53). Rowe’s finish placed him as the number one 2A sprinter in the 200M in the state and the time to beat.
The relay teams ran good times and maintained their rankings in the 2A relay events. The Hoehne Boys 4X200M relay team placed third, 2.04 seconds behind the leader from Mesa Ridge (1:32.75) and in the 4X800 M, placed eighthwith a time of 9:29.28. Their pace was over 1.07 minutes behind, but all the teams who placed ahead of the Farmers were 3A and 4A teams. The Farmer Rely teams are ranked second, first, fourth and fifth in the 4X100M, 200M, 400M and 800M relays, respectively.
In the field events, the only Farmer boy to place in the top eight was Federico Orozco who placed fifth in the discus at 131 feet- 10.00 inches.
The Lady Farmers struggled to place many top eight individual placers, but their relay team had two top -eight placers, finishing sixth in the 4x400M in a time of 4:45.06 minutes and fifth in the 800M sprint medley at 2:07.29 minutes.
On the individual side only Katelynn Low placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 30′ 6.50″ seven feet behind the leader.
Primero’s Mestas throws 90’- 11.00” for 1A first
The Primero Bulldogs also participated in the Pueblo event and only one athlete placed in the top-eight. Taylor Mestas placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 90′-11.00”. The throw represents her personal best in her career and it propelled her into the number one position in 1A.
While Dustin Robinson and Michael Duran did not have a top 16 finish in the 800M, they are still ranked number one and three in 2A.
