Eugene W. “Gene” Gonzales obituary

Eugene W. “Gene” Gonzales went peacefully into the Lord’s arms on March 18, 2015. He was born in South Bradford, CO to Abel and Amada Gonzales on December 4, 1940. Gene was proud to be a Walsenburg Panther. He loved playing football and running track. He greatly served his country in the U S. Army. Gene worked throughout the city and county, setting up mobile homes with the Powers’, working for J.J. Corsentino Construction, in the maintenance department at the Huerfano Memorial Hospital, various construction and building jobs, at Zorc’s Hardware, and at Kanbuild. Gene loved his family, the mountains, fishing, hunting, reading, word games, and his most recent love, BINGO! He loved taking care of and feeding the birds, deer, and rabbits in his yard. He loved music, singing, and helping people, whether they were family or friends, or if he just met them. He embraced having family and friends for get-togethers, eating, laughing, and teasing. He had a great sense of humor and joking. He was knowledgeable on many subjects and was a great

encourager. Eugene is survived by his daughters, Gina (Chuck) Stanger, Desiree (Jesùs) Flores, Gena (Trey) Cooper, Tara (Dalton) Wagner, and Connie (Darrell) Childers; by grandchildren, Aaron, Jessica, Jesùs, Samantha, Pete, Zane, Paige, Zaacharie, Savannah, and Haiden; special granddaughters, Ashley Baker and Stephanie Sandoval; brother, Hank (Cora) Gonzales; sisters, Elsie Vigil, Margie (Walter) Sanchez, and Maria Elena (Larry) Read; and his special love, “his Audrie Pino”. Eugene has been entrusted to Boies-Ortega Funeral Home. The family would like to give special thanks to the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center, Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center, Boies-Ortega Funeral Home, and New Hope Community Church. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11 am at New Hope Community Church, 801 Pennsylvania Ave. in Walsenburg, CO. Feel free to dress casually, in jeans, as he would have liked. A small reception will take place, following the service, at the church.
