Eloy Richard Abila 5/14/1940 ~ 11/9/2022

 

Eloy Richard Abila (Sonny) was born on May 14, 1940.  On Nov. 9, 2022, he went to be with the angels.
Sonny was a well-known citizen, he worked for the City of Walsenburg and J & L as an electrician and also volunteered as a fireman.

Some of his hobbies were cars, the Pittsburgh Steelers and joking with others.

He was always well dressed even as he did his yard work.
Sonny was well known and respected in the community.

He loved to attend all the athletic events. He loved his family, especially his son Mitchy and nephew Stan Sr.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 50 plus years, Mary Lou; great nephews, Stanley (Jada) and Tyrone (Amanda) Sandoval; great-great nephews and nieces, Shanice Santino, Jaelyn, Isaiah and Preston and, brother-in-law Dan Cruz.

Sonny is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Rudy (Sylvia) Valdez, Anthony “Buddy”  (Susan) Valdez, and Phil (Sharon) Valdez.

He is preceded in death by his son, Mitchell Ray Abila; his mother, Julia Roybal; sister, Josephine Cruz, and nephew Stan Sandoval Sr.

A Rosary will take place at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 121 East 7th St, Walsenburg, Colorado.
