Beginning the middle of January 2011, the Huerfano Emergency Dispatch Center is scheduled to bring their new E 9-1-1 phone system on line. The Positron Viper system is completely different than the system that has been used by the Center. One of the significant changes that affect the public is Dispatch personnel will only be able to answer calls received on either the emergency line, 9-1-1 or the non-emergency line, 738-1044. Dispatch will no longer have the ability to answer calls made to 738-1600.
Calls to dispatch should be limited to request for emergency or non-emergency police, fire, and medical responses. Calls for information, or requests to speak to a particular officer or deputy that do not necessitate the dispatch of police should be directed to the proper agency. For information relating to the Walsenburg Police Department, or one of their officers, 738-1056 should be called. Information requests from the Sheriff’s Department or one of its deputies should be directed to 738-1600. Neither 738-1056 nor 738-1600 will connect you to anyone in the dispatch center.
If you need help sent to your location, you must call 9-1-1 for emergencies, or 738-1044 for non-emergencies.
Huerfano Emergency Dispatch encourages you to make this change immediately to avoid any confusion in sending help to you after the transition.
