HUERFANO- Huerfano and Las Animas District Attorney Lee Hawke told the Journal that he will be announcing he is running again for district attorney. “I haven’t officially announced yet, because I was waiting to get a clean bill of health from my doctor; and I’ve gotten that, so I am running,” Hawke said.
Hawke was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2006, a treatable form of cancer of the immune system, which caused him to miss close to six months of work. Dave Thomas of the Colorado District Attorneys Council, and then Gary Stork were appointed temporary District Attorneys by Chief District Judge Claude Appel.
Hawke went back on the job in December of 2006, while still receiving chemotherapy treatment.
