Destination Imagination team to State

PUEBLO — On Saturday, March 22nd, nine students from Peakview School and one from Gardner school competed at the Destination Imagination Regional competition held at CSU-Pueblo. The Huerfano School District Re-1 was represented by two teams, the structural and the technical teams. The structural team, composed of Marissa Martinez, Isabella Rivera, Diego Sanchez and Miguel Sanchez, and trained by Mrs. Roberta Rivera, took sixth place. Rivera’s group presented a solution to a structural challenge for which they needed to build a structure that was tested against two forces at the same time. They also created a story in which tension is a threat to stability and is overcome in some way. The technical group, composed of Kiana Behringer, Tiana Camacho, Travis McKinzie, Charles Prough, Mariah Vigil and Eli Yelloweagle, and mentored by Mr. Hipolito Bueser Jr., presented a technical solution to a problem that required designing and building equipment to detect objects in their hiding places. They created and presented a story about a technology that detects things a human cannot sense without help. Their solution garnered a first-place win and qualified the team to compete in state level competition which will be held on April 12, 2014 in Denver. Congratulations to both teams. The school and the whole community are so proud of you. courtesy photo
