County gives nod for water mill levy

by Larry Patrick
WALSENBURG — The Huerfano County Commissioners voted unanimously to support the mill levy proposal by the Huerfano County Water Conservancy District on the November ballot. The two mill levy increase proposal is designed to help the HCWCD to be able to have additional dollars to purchase water rights and keep water in Huerfano County, as opposed to being sold to interests outside of the county.
Francisco Vialpando appeared before the commissioners complaining about the valuation assessed on his modular home on 10th Street. The commissioners heard his complaint and the arguments given by the Assessor’s Office and asked the two sides to get together and see if they can’t work out a solution between them. They tabled the matter for 30 days.
A request for a variance for Randy and Brenda Voss on a culvert on their property on C.R. 442 was denied. The commissioners had heard an earlier explanation given by the Voss’s, but said the culvert was not installed to county standards. The culvert will have to be redone correctly within 50 days.
