County courthouse is almost ADA compliant

by Brian Manning
WALSENBURG — The Huerfano County Courthouse has moved closer to being ADA compliant by installing a ramp leading from the north parking lot to the east courthouse door.
People with disabilities can now access the building and use the interior elevator to move from floor to floor. Building Inspector Steve Channel is pleased with the outcome of the project.
A handicap parking space on the north side of the building in the employee’s parking lot allows a wheelchair to unload without being in traffic. There are also three handicap spaces on the south side of the building. Someone from inside the building would have to unlock the lower level door to provide entry from the south side.
Now it is hoped that a handicap bathroom can be built in the building.
