Connect to the Arts

LA VETA- La Veta and the surrounding area enjoy a wealth of artistic talent in a multitude of media. There are painters, sculptors, fiber artists, musicians, writers, actors, potters, photographers, and many others who create unique one of a kind things.  The Spanish Peaks Arts Council is a nonprofit organization that provides a place where local artists can share their work with others and where the community can enjoy and  learn about various arts.  SPACe is fortunate to have a building and as part of the ongoing effort to raise funds to expand the building, the Board of Directors is announcing a new campaign involving locally made ceramic tiles that will be placed in the renovated entrance to the SPACe Gallery.

For each contribution of $100, a ceramic tile will be made and designed by local potters Nicole Copel and Polly Harris, that includes the name of the donor, or the donation can be given in the name of someone else.  The tiles will be integrated into an architectural statement at the entrance to the gallery, providing a long-lasting and beautiful connection with the arts.  All donations are tax deductible and giving a tile in the name of someone who loves the arts would make a great gift.

For more information and donation forms, visit the SPACe Gallery, 132 W. Ryus or call 719-742-3074 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays between 10 am – 3 pm (weather permitting) or visit the SPACe website, www.spanishpeaksarts.org/bldg_08.htm.

Conservation District

WALSENBURG- The Board of Supervisors of the Upper Huerfano Conservation District will meet at 5:30 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 711 Walsen Avenue, Suite A, Walsenburg.  Open to the public.

Invite birds to your backyard

WALSENBURG- One of the best ways to control insects naturally is by attracting birds to your backyard.

The Upper Huerfano Conservation District is making birdhouses available to property owners in Huerfano County for a $10 donation each.  These birdhouses are built in the Walsenburg area and have a natural finish that weathers beautifully.  The opening is 1 ½ inches in diameter, ideal for bluebirds and other song birds.

Not only are birds great for insect control, they are a welcome addition to the wildlife in our area.

The birdhouses are available now for pickup at the Conservation District’s Walsenburg office, 711 Walsen Avenue, Suite A. Phone orders can be made by calling (719) 738-1171.
