Community asked to help with 18th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive

by Chris Egland
OUR WORLD — This year will be the 18th year that The First National Bank in Trinidad has sponsored an annual Thanksgiving Food Drive in Trinidad.

Over the past 17 years, countless families have received a Thanksgiving surprise on the Sunday before Thanksgiving when volunteers delivered food baskets and gift certificates for groceries and dining out at local restaurants.  “Due to COVID-19, the bank will be collecting cash donations and distributing grocery gift cards to families in need.” says First National Bank in Trinidad, Vice President,  Roberta Noel, who has organized the food drive for the past 17 years.
“Over the years, many families were so overwhelmed that they could not find the words to express their gratitude,” said Noel.  “The generosity of the people, businesses and organizations in this community has been unbelievable!  We hope that this year will be no different.”  Several bank employees will assist in delivering gift cards by the weekend before Thanksgiving.

“In 19 days, we hope to collect enough cash donations to provide grocery gift cards for many local families in need.  Families without cooking facilities will be given gift certificates to go out for a family meal.  Due to COVID-19, only cash donations will be accepted, and every little bit helps!” says Noel.

Donations are accepted now through Nov. 19th at any area First National Bank location.  “As a community, let’s come together to do a good thing… by giving for Thanksgiving!”
