Commissioners receive letters of protest

by Larry Patrick

Opposition to the proposed Silver Mountain Wind Farm in Huerfano County is making its way to the Huerfano County Commissioners. They received letters at Wednesday’s meeting from Forest & Diane Dykstra and Sue Ellen Kellerman opposing the wind farm project.  Commissioner Scott King said that wind farms are safe, clean and then queried, “Where are you supposed to locate them?”  Wind farm projects are being proposed throughout Huerfano County.

The Commissioners also received a letter from Diane Ross denouncing them for accepting money from Petroglyph as a donation for buying a chairlift to assist the handicapped in getting up the stairs at the front of the Huerfano County Courthouse. That is going to be the new entrance for security reasons. Petroglyph Inc. has been at the forefront of protests by rural landowners for their drilling which has seen methane gas creep into water wells. Petroglyph has donated to numerous causes and groups during their time in Huerfano County.

The flu has been hitting residents of the County recently. Numerous county employees have been out sick as well as students in the school districts.  It is not known if any of the people stricken have the H1N1 flu. Vaccines are now available. ceived letters at Wednesday’s meeting from Forest & Diane Dykstra and Sue Ellen Kellerman opposing the wind farm project.  Commissioner Scott King said that wind farms are safe, clean and then queried, “Where are you supposed to locate them?”  Wind farm projects are being proposed throughout Huerfano County.
